THEY GET US ALL, DON'T THEY?

I had an interesting conversation in church this morning. We have a lot of veterans in our church and I keep in regular contact with them. This morning I talked to one of our Korea War veterans. I stopped him and said "Sixty years this week, thanks for what you did." He got a quizzical look on his face and said, "Sixty years?" I said, "Sixty years ago, 1950, the Korea War started." He said, "I wasn't there until 1952." At this point I figured he was confused and didn't get what I was saying. I thanked him again and he said when were you there. I thought he was talking about my war and I said, "1972." A look came over his face and he said, "They get us all don't they?"

He winked and said, "The wars get all the young guys don't they?" I thought for a moment and said, "They really do get us all." I told him he was part of the Greatest Generation and he was really embarrassed. My dad had the same reaction. He said, "We did what our country needed. You did that too, right?" I thought about it and said, "Jerry, you're right. They get us all, don't they?" He said, "Thank you too." We shook hands, he handed me a church bulletin and we walked off.

Back then they got us all, I was in for Korea and Vietnam, but missed Operation Camel......although I did respond to an all out alert and scramble that I thought was the big one when Libya started rumbling, but we didn't take off as the alert was cancelled, but my aircraft, which was the last one to be loaded, had all crew members who were either on convalescent leave or disabled for some reason or other. I had a broken leg and threw my crutches up the hole and climbed up the ladder with difficulty, but we were ready. I wish I had had a camera for that fiesco......Great post,,,,brings back memories.....

Tap,
I love when you visit. Geez, Tap, really you missed something? You are a true hero. I did my thing, but you were a pro and lived to tell about it. Your comment is really reminiscient of what I which I was.

I remember when 9-11 happened. I was really pissed and I told my wife and daughter I was going to reenlist. I was old but didn't know it. My wife brought me back to reality and told me that they didn't want old broken down guys anymore. Damn.

The Last war that caused any lasting effect on America was the Civil War.

The Freemasons won.
