According to the Prentice Hall textbook "World History The Modern Era," fascism is defined as "any centralized, authoritarian government that is not communist whose policies glorify the state over the individual and are destructive to basic human rights."

I would say we're the opposite of that as it stands now. I think we have a very weak govt and the control comes from the multinationals and the corporate sector. Meaning any control, example mandatory health insurance, is influenced by and beneficial to the health insurance industry. The govt may mandate and enforce it, but the policy is intended to benefit the insurance industry with the industry returning the largess with campaign contributions and other favors. My opinion anyway.
Hmmm... Sound familiar?
Oso,
I would have to disagree with you on health care. Anytime, anytime that government mandates you buy something that's unconstitutional, regardless who benefits. Government cannot mandate that citizen must buy anything because it isn't one of the enumerated powers. Thanks for the visit.
Brooke,
It's beginning to look that way.
Pretty much describes our current state capitalism. The government is just Kapital's enforcement arm at the moment.
Oso! "Weak government"? Have you ever seen so many things America doesn't want pass so quickly and completely? I WISH :-)
We are living in a fascist state now......except I do believe Obama's got COmmie tendencies...
And the left still calls the right fascist!?:-)
