INAUGURATION, 2009

I read the post of Z and it got me thinking. We are about to inaugurate a new president and I was thinking that I hope BO does well. I have my doubts, but I hope he is successful. If he is, we are. But check out this video. This is a PRESIDENT. Reagan was what a president should be. We won't see another one like him in our lifetime. I shook his hand twice as a police officer in 1980 and 1984. I rank those two times among the greatest moments of my life. It was electric.

I am old enough to know what my parents were talking about when they talked about FDR. Those who think BO is the messiah, sorry that's spots already taken. As for great presidents, that spot's taken too. Reagan was what a president is supposed to be in a time of great peril. His actions and policies ended the Cold War. For those of us who lived under that spectre, you have no idea what the Cold War was about. To live under the spectre of total annihilation was daunting.

I remember the nuclear war drills when I was a kid. Put your head between your legs and duck under you desk was a joke. My dad always said kiss your ass good-bye while you're down there. Your desks won't make any difference.

BO, you have a lot to live up to. I hope you do, but you have a lot of things going on the the world. Good Luck. GOD BLESS AMERICA!!

He certainly is starting out with a full plate. I too hope he is up to it, and I hope he really can unite both parties because he will need ALL THE HELP HE CAN GET! Time will tell.

AA,
Thanks for the visit. I agree. Will he be up to it? I don't know. I hope, but I don't don't hold my breath.

no we won't have another Reagan. We were talking politics and leaders last night at the bar. I allow it for adults only. And the consensus was he was someone you believed in who put the country first. He saw evil and did not follishly fight it morally, but with brute force or sly diplomacy that took the commies out at the kneecaps. no, but we need another Dutch in 2012

That's so awesome, Law and Order Teacher.

Actually, I really just starting following politics in the 1980s and it's not until about the time Reagan died that I realized how important a man and president he was. Of course, that's about the same time I started by to be shocked out of my more liberal sensibilities by all the radical lefties seeking to destroy this country. If Obama resists them, as well as our enemies abroad, he will have achieved something.

Hope you're having a great weekend!

OB's underlings are already starting to get out onto the News circuits to re-eductate the public on the new agenda of the administration. Hang on to your wallets. It is my understanding They want to tax Gasoline to around the $4.00 mark, probably nearer to $5.00. I am bearly making the winter with the cost of oil and now all these taxes, I assume will be added to what I'm already paying ....I don't get it....Sorry,,,they are not in my financial bracket. Let the politicians in Washington pay for the additional taxes and while they are about it cancel their health insurance.....I ramble....stay well...

CH,
I signed it. Thanks for the visit.

RWP,
Thanks for the visit. You bet I remember them. As a school kid the nuns used to make us do duck and cover drills. My dad always laughed and said go ahead and kiss your butt good-by while your down there. I must have missed the nuclear proof material in those wooden desks.

obob,
Thanks for the visit. I see you survived amateur night. I agree with your analysis of RR. Your point about his style. He got it. Evil required a swift and sure response, diplomatic if possible, military if necessary. He was a great one.

Dr.D,
Thanks for the visit. I have been on your site the last few minutes. Norm's essay was spot on. Meeting RR was one of the perks of being a cop on security duty. The Secret Service told us where to stand so that RR would see us. They said he loved cops and military and he would surely stop to shake hands and talk. Great moments both.

Tap,
Thanks for the visit. And it begins. The taxes begin to rise as BO makes the oceans recede. I'm sorry for your stress about heating oil, but then again BO and his boys don't have that problem do they? Carry on.

I too hope BHO can be successful.

*sigh*

How cool that you got to shake Reagan's hand! What an experience!

I had the chance to interview Reagan one-on-one while News Director at KGNO Radio in Dodge City, Kansas, back during his GOP run against Bush 1, in the spring of 1980.

I'm not fooled easily, and I made up my mind right there that Reagan was my man.....no American politican has come close since.

Z said...

No, No, NO! We don't want BHO successful..we want AMERICA successful, which means one thing has to happen. He has to give up his views of America as he's outlined for us when campaigning!!!

He has to have a complete reversal in his thinking and his plans for this country...like honoring the constitution instead of saying how the first SCOTUS justice he appoints should have his ethics and be 'just'....he has to lower everyone's taxes and stop looking at the financially successful as cash cows for illegals and those who won't work, he has to realize we're past race and get on with things as a MAN, not as a man of color (though he must continue to fight against any racism, etc.), he has to realize appeasement's for the birds and our enemies are tougher than he thinks (maybe daily intel will help?), he has to learn enough about the environment that he realizes Gore's been lying and signing Kyoto will be a NIGHTMARE for America, etc etc..

You see? He loves Kyoto, he loves taxes, he loves redistribution, he bullied Joe the Plumber, etc etc....we can't ask that he's SUCCESSUL in those endeavors..

We have to hope he's successful for America.

End of rant! I just think there IS a distinction there but maybe it's just semantics!? HA!!

Aaahhh...the Reagan years...when men were men and liberals lived in Canada.

Wouldn't it be nice to relive 1980-88 just one more time...if only.

Happy New Year!

Brooke,
Thanks for the visit. I don't want BO to be successful with his plans, I want him to be successful as the American president. I hope we get our economy out of the ditch. I don't think his policies will do it. But, he will try. We'll see how it works.

PH,
Thanks for the visit. RR was what a politician should be. I talked to him each time for about a minute. I envy you.

Z,
Thanks for the visit. I don't think that he will successful in any of those endeavors. I think he will be successful being a conservative. I would never think that he could be a liberal and be successful.

My statement is that he will be successful. He will be successful by following the right policies, not those he espoused in the campaign. I hope he sees the light. I doubt it.

I am merely trying to give him the benefit of the doubt. His policy decisions, once he states some, will be something he has to live with. He hasn't taken too many stands and I eagerly await his first.

I never wish any president ill. I am convinced if he follows the right policies he will be successful. We'll see.

Thanks for the visit. "When men were men and liberals lived in Canada." Ah, the good old days. Someday they will return.

Law & Order, i don't wish Obama bad...It's just that if HE IS SUCCESSFUL, that means HE GETS HIS WAY and his way is not, mostly, the American way you and I know. That's all.
I do wish America success but I sure don't see where he's going to the Right...except with a couple of appointments.

I have European friends who slam Obama and ,believe me, suddenly up rises in me that HE IS MY PRESIDENT..I AM AN AMERICAN and I wonder "Wow, where did THAT come from?" Deep seated patriotism, I guess? We're all in this together and we do wish for this country's success...let's hope his heart is changed regarding socialism and the terror intel he's now getting wakes him up to being stronger than he might have thought he'd have to be.
The National Sec Director Blair is an excellent nominee...we can HOPE he's a harbinger of Obama's next choices.

I'm sorry if you get the impression I'm blithely insulting and slamming Obama because he's not from my party. It's not that at all...I just don't respect much about him.....I hope he changes my mind..SO MUCH, I hope that.

I remember the thrill of seeing Reagan in one of the Bonzo movies. Changed my life. I became a committed Christian. I remember when Reagan wondered why corporations couldn't make a little less money to keep some peopel employed. I remember Reagan not being on TV without a script after he said that. I remember the hostages coming home from Iran and I remember waiting for Reagan to bomb those assholes back to the stoneage. I remember waiting eight years for that. I remember big deficits racked up during the Reagan years. Of course, thanks to your hero Bush, thoses deficits don't look so bad now.

T101,
Thanks for your visit. I'm honored. Now on to the comment.
I get it. You're pulling my leg, right? You really didn't like Reagan? Wow, that's hard to believe. He was a great president, even though he made a movie with a monkey.

As for Christianity, Reagan had nothing to do with that for me. It was a Catholic thing. Birth, baptism, school, you get the picture I'm sure.

As for Bush, I'm a fan in some ways and not in others. I think history will bear him out as being right in the war on terror.

As for domestics, I am still mad at him for allowing your Dem buddies to spend so much. With the tax cuts he was right. But you need to cut some of the wasted spending in the budget. A simple idea, spend what you have, don't spend what you don't have.

Again, thanks for the visit. I'm honored.
