AMERICAN MUSIC-MICHAEL KAMEN

Are there great American composers? Here is one. This is just a small sampling of what he has done for American music.

I am taking all of my AP classes to a performance of our local Philharmonic Orchestra. They are sponsoring a concert for schools celebrating Lincoln's 200th birthday. We'll hear Civil War music and other American music, most notably Aaron Copland's music (Fanfare for The Common Man) I hope. American music is as good as any in the world. Listen to Michael Kamen and enjoy. I love his stuff. You will too.

Good luck on the field trip. I hope your students appreciate the effort that goes into such an undertaking. "Plan a seed and see if it grows," I always say. Have fun and let us know how it comes out.

Rodgers and Hammerstein
Aaron Copeland
The Bergmans
Elmer Bernstein
George M Cohan
Glenn Miller (stop, my heart!)
etc etc......
(Okay, not 'FINE MUSIC', but really great stuff!)

This is fine stuff, too....John Williams, etc., Henry Mancini; VERY not my cup of tea, but great stuff, right?

TT,
Thanks for the visit. The students are very excited about the trip. I am looking forward to it also.

Z,
Thanks for mentioning these composers. I play music from every era as part of our study of history. The last couple of days we have looked at men's and women's fashions and listened to music from the 1920s. I listen to Glenn Miller with them. It always that his music is the favorite. I like it too.
