DON McLEAN
Has there ever been a more mysterious singer than Don McLean? We never understood a lot of the lyrics of his songs, but we loved the melodies nonetheless.

"American Pie" certainly defined a generational shift. I think everyone who hears it interprets it within the perspective of their life.
I think we all have our own "day when the music died."
I am a retired police officer. In an inexplicable moment of madness I then became a high school history teacher in 2002. As I navigate through daily life I am keenly aware that my generation owes the country an apology for the 1960s. Although I was not an active participant, on behalf of all the burned out hippies that are leading most of our institutions of higher learning, I'm sorry!
