MAY 4, 1970

I had to post this. Nothing else needs to be said.

Tin soldiers and Nixon's comin'.
We're finally on our own.
This summer I hear the drummin'.
Four dead in Ohio.

Gotta get down to it.
Soldiers are cutting us down.
Should have been done long ago.
What if you knew her and
Found her dead on the ground?
How can you run when you know?

Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na.
Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na.
Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na.
Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na.

Gotta get down to it.
Soldiers are cutting us down.
Should have been done long ago.
What if you knew her and
Found her dead on the ground?
How can you run when you know?

Tin soldiers and Nixon's comin'.
We're finally on our own.
This summer I hear the drummin'.
Four dead in Ohio.
Four dead in Ohio.
Four dead in Ohio.
Four dead in Ohio.
Four dead in Ohio.
Four dead in Ohio.
Four dead in Ohio.
Four dead in Ohio.
Four dead in Ohio.

Nice beat to that song, but I still remember how the media put more importance on those 4 dead than they did on 58,000 dead soldiers, or at least it seemed that way!

Keep it up, Law and Order Teacher. You have a great way of bringing back the immediacy of the period.

AA,
Thanks for the visit. I also remember that this caught a lot more publicity than the war itself and especially the GIs. That being said, it was a bad situation and shouldn't have happened. Untrained troops under pressure. Bad combination, bad incident.

Dr.D,
Thanks for the visit. It was a tough time for the country. It needs to remembered for the mistakes that were made and for the people who did courageous things and got no credit. The anti-war groups of today are pansies compared to the loonies who ran it during this time. The Weather Underground were war protestors, they were terrorists and should never be forgiven their crimes.

That should be "not" war protestors.

I agree with "average american." The media did put more coverage into these four dead than all the brave men and women who died in Vietnam. Things never change. The media has been and will always be the same.

TT,
I agree with your statement. The situation at Kent State did not need to happen. The troops were poorly trained to perform law enforcement functions. A big problem all around.

Tap,
Thanks for the visit. I, too, remember the walk through an America that hated its military and mixed us up with the war. We did our duty honorably. I am proud of our military and its conduct in fighting an unpopular war that was twisted out of shape by forces beyond our control.
