VIETNAM REDUX

Since my visit I have spoken with my children about my experience. I was embarrassed about my reaction to the wall. My wife told me that my reaction was understandable, but I still did not feel good about it. Then I spoke to my children and tried to explain what I felt. They were great about my feelings and even better they told me they were proud of me. I now feel ten feet tall. Enough said. Thanks to my family. They are the greatest.

"...told me they were proud of me"

Can't ask for any higher praise from your family.

You have nothing to be ashamed of. Now the anti war left on the other hand...

Thank you for your service. It was a long time ago and vets weren't able to properly heal, I think, as they came home and weren't appreciated for the service. Your reaction was completely normal.

Thanks for all your comments. I am a product of the generation in which showing emotion is not expected in men.

Showing emotions makes you human.. It was a totally natural reaction.
Do not be ashamed! I'm glad you were able to resolve that within yourself!

Thank you one and all for your comments. It feels good to come to grips with my time in Vietnam. I think I will be a better teacher because of it.
