THE WISDOM OF RONALD REAGAN

My old partner from my days on the PD sent me this. There are few bonds as strong and close as that between partners on police patrol. We talked about everything throughout an eight hour day. We solved the problems of the world. We talked about our kids and hoped together that our kids were better than the ones we encountered on the job. We were buds who risked our lives together. We both were shot at on several occassions and we survived together. We were together for eight years.

We are brothers.

I'm sure glad you survived together.

By the way, did you know Norman Thomas has a PUBLIC high school named after him in one of the most upper class neighborhoods in Manhattan? Wouldn't Reagan have been stunned.

A president whose biggest contribution was to teach the peeps to hate government.

Yeah, that fool was a hell of a man.

Why the bleep would anyone care if the man who supervised the largest upward wealth transfer in our history (while the peeps chatter about class warfare, fools), taught terrorist in Beirut that we have absolutely no resolve, Iran Contra anyone ... kissing that murderer D'Aubisson's arse (than God for that tough South Boston street kid who went down and had the guts to get the truth unlike, "Dutch") ... Savings and Loan bubble anyone?

Yes sir, another Gilded Age. Joe Gould and the robber barons return but "it's morning in America", the peeps have been anesthetized with lousy pop culture ... and we care if this dildo would be stunned by naming a school after a man with more positive accomplishments?

Z,
Thanks and Reagan was a great president. He had a radio show in which he honed his message. Kiron Skinner edited the book of his papers. She was stunned to find out that he had written the scripts for every radio show in longhand on yellow legal tablets. It convinced her that all the crap about him being a scripted dummy was false. That must tear the heart out of the lefties.

Ducky,
Thanks for the visit. I know you don't like Reagan. Sorry, but he doesn't fit your stereotype. As for teaching us to hate government, I think he taught us to be suspicious of government.

The constitution was a document dedicated to restraining government. So he was in tune with the founding fathers. Not a bad place to be. Dildo? Really, is that all you got? Norman Thomas was a very good socialist, which really your cup of tea, right? We all need heroes.

Good day sir.

I never understood the wisdom of people not having health insurance. Or a country that thought it better for people to do without than to pool it's resources and make sure all citizens had access to quality health care.

Reagan made a great speech and rode it for 16 years till he got his chance to be president. Timing and a good line are everything in politics.

Truth,
I don't know that it's so much wisdom as it is the scheme of things. The best I heard it put was that conservatives believe in equality of opportunity, while Democrats believe in equality of outcome. Big difference.

Joe "Truth 101" Kelly said...

From what I've seen, conservatives believe that governments role is to protect the wealth of the wealthy.

Democrats believe government should work to level the playing field through proper regulation and enforcement. Protect the citizens and work to make all our lives better. Those who benefit the most from the system our government protects and makes possible have a duty to pay more to support the system. The rich aren't getting poorer Law Teacher. It's the middle class people like me struggling every day to keep our dreams alive while wealth is redistributed to the top of the economic ladder. And I am not struggling near as much as many people I know. Jack Welch and Mitt Romney don't have to worry about losing their health insurance or pensions. And despite your loyalty to the conservative ideal, should you lose part of your pension or benefits promised you as a Veteran, you would be just as outraged as the guy that worked for Enron.

I think it's prudent to protect those with money and companies which HIRE US...imagine a country where everyone disdained the wealthy and so nobody had anything to show for their hard work and success? Oh, ya...there are countries like that, but they're miserable, I forgot.

TRUTH, one of the Republican suggestions was just that..pooling resources.

Sorry, Law and Order but it is necessary to be suspicious of Reagan worship.

I rarely encounter attempts to view his administration with a neutral analytic eye. In many ways he was a disaster, a serious disaster which we are paying for now (compounded by a parade of bipartisan failures after him, true).

What puts me on edge with Reagan worship is knowing that it represents a fundamentalism that clings to dogma and fear over compromise and reason. It is a prime mover in the destruction of the country.

As I was saying, clowns like Ducky and Liar101 most likely have posters of Obama the Wonder Kenyan on their outhouse walls(can't have bathrooms, neither is smart enough to afford one), and probably self satisfy themselves daily in front of their Master Barry's Image. What a couple of fool tools.

... or maybe we can have St. Ronnie's words of wisdom on "welfare Cadillacs" and lots of other nonsense he helped elevate to fact.

The man was disgusting, stupid and shallow. Not qualities I look for in a leader. And we should be thankful the Brezhnev died when he did because "Dutch" had a crew of morons like Richard Perle who were advising him to get into a dustup with the Soviets.

"Obama the Wonder Kenyan!" I'm sorry, but that just CRACKED ME UP!

Truth,
I accept that the wealth of some is protected as they hire those of us in the middle class. Contrary to some on your side, Many rich got that way by working hard. Some invented things of use to all of us. Gates deserves his money. I have no quibble with anyone who is rich who earned it. Contrary to the class warfare rhetoric, most people who have a lot money aren't Paris Hilton. They employ a lot of us. As for me losing my health benefits for being a veteran, I have said that I don't consider it fair use of resources that those of us who didn't retire should get lifetime bennies. I have health now and from my pension which I earned. That said those who were injured should always be taken care of. Thanks for visiting and commenting. I look forward to more of your wisdom.

Z,
As I tell my students, don't make knee-jerk arguments about anything in life. All the rich aren't evil people who don't care about workers and all the workers aren't sainted hard workers who only care about putting crumbs on their family table. We need employers and we need workers. That's capitalism.

Ducky,
I think a neutral look at Reagan's administration shows the wisdom of his approach. He encourage the congress to cut taxes, while the Congress, that does the spending, failed to follow suit with spending cuts. Always a problem.

Cutting taxes is poltically expedient, cutting spending, not so much for gutless politicians. Thanks for your comment.

Pat,
Nice line, Pat. See you Saturday.

Bill Gates is worth 50 billion dollars. How much would he be worth in a system not provided by our society and form of government?

It is only right those that benefit the most pay the most. I respect and admire entrepreneurs as much as anyone. I appreciate the system that makes their achievement possible.

Liar101?

You generally present a strong case for conservative principles, Law and Order. Even in disagreement your position has to be considered seriously.

That's why my reaction to the Reagan worship is a little extreme. Once the Reagan worship enters you are dealing strictly from dogma and dogma can be dismissed out of hand.

His legacy is astounding. Not only did he pour the foundation for the economic destruction of the country but he also helped destroy principled conservatism.

It's a mystery why the right doesn't disown this disaster.

Ducky's here said...

He encourage the congress to cut taxes, while the Congress

-----------------

WRONG !!

He cut income taxes and raised SSI payroll taxes. It was a massive income distribution upward.

The right always wants to forget payroll taxes which are now pretty much equal to income taxes as a source of Federal revenue.

By ignoring them you can do as certain of your posters have and parrot Rush Limbaugh the Vulgar Pigboy as he claims that the rich are subject to discrimination because they pay 70% of the taxes.

Of course he doesn't mention the complete tax picture. Our tax policy becomes much less graduated and the country suffers.

Truth,
I generally agree with your statement. It is just a matter of degree. How much is too much? Thanks for the visit.

Ducky,
I appreciate your comments here and the civility with which you do it. We'll just have to disagree on this subject. My main point is that presidents are like quarterbacks in football. They get too credit when things go well and too blame when they don't.

Congress is still the keeper of the bucks and they can tell the president to take a hike (pun intended). Blaming Reagan for excessive taxes is a little like blaming humans for climate change. Some factors are out of his control. Presidents suggest, they don't legislate. I know you would never do it, the Reagan diaries, written in his own hand give you the true story of his desire to cut government and his frustration when he runs into reality with congress. Thanks again.
