WAR

I was on my friend's site, Dr. D, and he was talking about the series Band of Brothers. I would say this, war is terrible on all sides. The speech I'll post would tell you that combat has two sides. I've been on one side, but I haven't really given a thought to the other side. War is an atrocity. We should try to never be there again. This is from the Band of Brothers series and speaks to war's effects on both sides. Good post, Dr.D.

I don't like war and I have been there, albeit a hundred years ago, and I have watched Band of Brothers a dozen times. Regardless, sometimes war is necessary, and the Afghanistan conflict is one of those times but only in the short run....War sucks!

Dr.D,
Thanks for the heads up and the mention on your powerful blog.

MMA,
I think anyone who has been in war despises, but also realizes it is necessary at times. Those of us who went did so for the right reasons. Too bad the conduct of the war was so screwed up. Unfortunately some blamed us for it.

As a teacher, had I your influence, I would insist upon any number of DVDs being played in my classroom -- to include "Saving Private Ryan" and DEFINITELY the series "Band of Brothers."

My father is gone. His funeral was sparsely attended in late February of 2009. The "Greatest Generation" has mostly perished.

But it is because he and his hero friends, who seldom if ever mentioned their heroism and considered it their obligation to this country, placed their lives in jeopardy for this nation -- that we may sit in our rooms and type on keyboards here today.

No one likes war. But lines do have to be drawn and limits set. Evil exists. I wish it didn't. But true damned Evil DOES exist.

As a cop, you KNOW I'm right. You've looked it right in the face and knew it the second you were within its perimeter -- the moment you set your eyes upon its dead soul.

WHY,
Thanks for the visit.

Ducky,
Thanks for the visit. I'll get the link and read it.

BZ,
I have unforunately seen and experienced evil firsthand and you're right it must be fought.

As for the Greatest Generation, we are slackers compared to them.
Thanks for the visit.
