GLOBAL WARMING IS NOTHING MORE THAN HOT AIR

Politicians never seem to disappoint when it comes to their unending displays of arrogance and disregard for spending the people's money. Take some time to read this article and watch the video and then take a deep breath and count to ten.

As if we needed more proof that congress doesn't care about spending our money they are able to exceed our expectations and in tone deaf fashion go about blithely spending thousands of dollars to attend the Copenhagen Circus, at which absolutely nothing was accomplished except spending taxpayer's money and partying.

This is such an in your face to the taxpayers from these members of congress that it's hard to argue that they even really care what we think. They are so disconnected from reality that they really don't see that their constituents might be a little upset with them taking a useless luxury vacation on our dime.

This is further proof that these people have no business running anything that requires intelligence or trustworthiness. The only pay that matters to them is power, pure and simple and the citizens continue to be ripped off by these self-aggrandizing freeloaders.

We would do better to feed the government fiat money they print without any end in sight into a furnace and burn it for heat. At least we would get a warm feeling from it and it can replace the hot air that these jackasses generate.

L&O I beg to differ with your title to this post. Global warming in real and is forever linked to climate change, which will, in just a few years, present the greatest challenge and the greatest potential disaster faced by mankind in its history. I am not a "sky is falling" kind of guy but I have spent hundreds of hours researching this sea change, and I have looked at both sides. The evidence is clear. Climate change is occurring at an alarming rate. This is evidenced most recently by the record breaking cold that has swept the nation. This is part of climate change and global warming. The latter term is counter-intuitive and calls for shorter but harsher winters and longer, hotter summers. It is here. It will only get worse. Much worse.

MM: and -- so who's going to pay for all of this? You? Me? Only the U.S.? Or shall we break ourselves back down to an agrarian society? Some are even hypothesizing that, no matter WHAT we do, we are beyond the point of any amount of control.

This is a complex issue. Number one, I do think that there is an element of man-made global warming. But, as you apparently believe, too, the concept of throwing money at it is probably counterproductive. Cost-effective solutions (I refer here to Bjorn Lomborg's work) that minimally affect the economy - that's where we really need to focus.

MMA,
I have a little problem with the climate change/man-made climate change deal. There are many scientists who are saying this is a cycle that the climate of the earth inevitably goes through.

Historians blame the mini-ice age in Europe about the time of the French Revolution for the food shortage that spurred the revolution. Interesting.

It is in the interest of those who would profit from any action the government takes in reaction to this crisis of biblical proportions.

I find it worrisome that with so many scientists disagreeing, a segment of our nation has declared it case closed.

Thanks for the visit.

BZ,
You make the point well that this should be far from a done deal. We need more scientists doing more work before we cash in our chips because some have said case closed.

As you said before, "Cui bono."

WH,
I think we certainly can be good stewards of the planet. Pollution should be controlled and all the other things we can do to take better care of the planet. I agree that we can't throw our way of life into the crapper that is a lot of the science surrounding this issue. I'm amazed that we have been told that the science is clear and the case is closed. What happened to a constant search for the truth?

I couldn't agree with you more, LO. They are more than willing to use this snake oil scam as yet another way to rip off the taxpayer.

Brooke,
We can't waste a good crisis. This is one. The people who would visit this upon us are the same who would say that government knows best. I don't think so.

There are many who say it is aggravated by human activity. So who do we believe?

Now, it may be that mother nature is going to force you to throw your way of life in the crapper if you don't hedge your bets and get the emissions down whether you like it or not.

So what does the game matrix look like here and where is our best strategy? First thing we do is admit that none of the posters here know squat about this issue and maybe figure out how to take an objective look ... because the potential downside is quite serious.

I will also state that the reason the right is so incensed about this is because if the problem is accurately stated then they have a situation which absolutely requires government action and global government cooperation.

And that is bad mojo in the Libertarian political sand box.
