THE BAND

Of all the songs by The Band, this is my favorite. The wistful pain in the lyrics is evidence of the soul of this group. They made many songs but I love this one.

Having said that, I played their song Acadian Driftwood today in class for my students. We have been studying the French and Indian War and the Revolutionary War. This song is about the Acadians who were rousted from their homes during the F & I War and sent on their way. The British renamed the island Nova Scotia. Most of the Acadians ended up in Louisiana near New Orleans. We know them as Cajuns.

These little pieces of history are the most fun to study. As I told the students today, maybe there will be a whole new generation of Band fans. Who knows?

I love that you adore THE BAND, too...this is too gorgeous for words.
I like the Garfield quote on your masthead, too....kind of scary but good!
Thanks so much for coming by....I'll be commenting more soon. I hope I'll be feeling more like it soon, anyway.

Z,
Thanks for the visit. The Band, a real music group that is all about the music. Some are about money, these guys are about the music.

Always enjoyed The Band, saw them live a few times. I enjoyed "The Weight," used to really like to sing to "The Shape I'm In," also really enjoyed "Ain't Got No Home."

BZ,
I loved the Band. They are a group that is just really good to listen to. Their songs were always different and fresh. Thanks for the visit.

Pat,
I figured you to have a large record collection. I have a lot of them and I don't really know what to do with them other than sell them.

I just took tons of albums to an old record store..my stepson got $20 for about 100 albums! :-(
but, I had no room and just don't listen to old albums anymore.

THE BAND is amazing....so pure and so touching; such just plain GOOD MUSIC. I have never heard a cut I didn't like from them and that's really going some for me.

Their NIGHT THEY DROVE OLD DIXIE DOWN probably needs to be up at my place again.....I can't hear that enough. Maybe I'll post it soon.

I LOVE THE BAND and ALWAYS DID...since UP ON CRIPPLE CREEK days! I know my whole lineage is Armenia, but we must be from SOUTHERN Armenia :-)
