AND THE BAND PLAYED ON

And so it continues. As an out of control government spirals spending out of control, the debt ceiling has be adjusted. Those pesky laws should be amended so that the government officials, who really know what's best for us, are able to fund their vision of America. The annoying thing for them must be that someone, back in the day, saw fit to govern the government. Spending is required to be, oh I don't know, accounted for? Really?

What's really hard to take is that the Dems are in the process of raising the debt ceiling and hiding it. That's gutless and I hope they are held accountable for it. I have little hope that the Republicans will run anyone who will offer a true conservative alternative. I don't hold any water for politicians in general. I don't trust any of them to do anything other than perpetuate their own power. That's a sad fact.

One of my favorite presidents has always been Grover Cleveland the 22nd and 24th president of the US. He really knew the value of the word "NO." What endeared him to me was reading a biography about him in which I learned to respect his penchant for vetoing government spending for any number reasons. Most of all, he didn't think it was constitutional for the government to be involved in private spending.

Where are you now, President Cleveland?

I'm just glad to be of an age(60) to say...."Thank God I will probably not be around for the final destruction of our once great Republic"

Sad to say though, my kids, and their kids{if they choose to have them} will be....

Things really suck, but I'm not sure if enough Americans have the will to do the right thing, or vote the right way.

Pat,
I am enough of an optimist to say that Americans will wake up and they are beginning to do that. I hold out hope that we will see the end to this presidency and a restoration to sane policies. Take care.

I can find much to agree with in your post LaOT. I wouldn't leave it at "just say no" however. i would make it "Just say no unless it's funded with a tax hike or spending cut." If a program isn't worth the hassle of asking taxpayers to fund it or cut something they already have, it must not be worth it.

Great thoughts, Law and Order Teacher. I began reading about Grover Cleveland earlier this year and I would probably consider him my favorite Democratic president. If only we had more Republicans like that Democrat.

Truth,
I agree with what you have said here. New spending must be painful. Whether it requires a tax hike or spending cut, it must be felt. To simply expand the deficit is unconscienable. Thanks for the visit.

Carl,
Thanks for your visit. It is always an honor. Isn't it strange that a president who merely controlled spending is thought of by most "scholars" as a lesser president? Cleveland did what any responsible government official should do. That he was the only Democrat in the Gilded Age is instructive. Republicans of that time were goldbugs who controlled most of the wealth in the country. He did his job and didn't worry about reelection. Interesting guy.

BZ,
Thanks for the visit. Miller is the best. Sarcasm, wit, and intelligence. Killer combo.

So what's the name of the book anyway? I'll add it to my reading list.

Vegas,
The book was part of presidential series. Grover Cleveland was written by Henry F. Graff. It's short, 154 pages. There are longer ones out there. One called Grover Cleveland, A Study in Character is one I plan on reading. Thanks for the visit.
