Fox News has reported that Tim Latham, the non-renewed (fired)teacher was rehired and his contract has been renewed. Isn't it a shame that an evidently high-performing teacher has to fight to keep his job because of his political philosophy? Where's the justice in this situation?

I don't think that merely rehiring Mr. Latham without any explanation other than that he was the victim of a faulty evaluation process, is an acceptable explanation. I don't want to belabor the point but this whole situation SUCKS.

Two points and I'll stop. One, this is all the evidence you need to know that the public education system is broken. If people can be fired for their point of view, what does that teach our children about honest debate and dissent in our country? Two, I wonder if any action was taken against this assistant principal for her tyrannical and un-American intolerance of viewpoints different from her own? So much for tolerance and diversity, eh?

I will continue to monitor this situation. I can't let it drop. My outrage and disgust will not let me. As I said, this situation should scare the hell out of you. If it doesn't, are you an American?

Wouldn't you say the justice is that he returned to his job and had his contract renewed?

Is there any way to stop these conflicts from occurring? I doubt it but I do believe our jurisprudence is effective in resolving them judiciously.

Thanks for the visit. That's my problem. How did this happen? Better yet who let it happen?

Thanks for the visit. The system in place worked, but my problem is with it happening at all. Teachers shouldn't attempt to sway students by bullying them with his opinions.

Conversely, teachers shouldn't have to look over their shoulder because of their politics. The AP who took this action should be fired. Then justice will have been done.

I didn't think a measly Asst. Principle had the authority to fire. It probably had to at least go through the Principle,if not the Superintendant. Perhaps more than one head should roll over this crapola.

If it's any comfort, the times I saw things similar to Mr. Latham's situation, the offended party was reinstated with back pay and became virtually untouchable as far as discipline and termination went.

I hope you never haver the trouble Mr. Latham did LaOT. Two of the three best teachers I ever had were diehard conservatives. I was aliberal even then and had some rousing discussions during class. My grades were good also. Not as good as the liberal teacher's class. But I was always glad to take a B whenever I could.

The letter to the editor offer still stands if you think it becomes necessary. I like anonymity but I hate seeing a good union man getting the shaft more.

Truth, lovely that you got B's with the conservatives. I hate to tell you what my centrist nephew had to deal with at Columbia U. "Well, Aunt Z, we just keep our mouths shut and say what they want us to say" "They" were his ultra liberal profs who didn't welcome dissent.

The justice would have only been had he not been fired.

When I THINK of what I've heard happens to conservatives (and don't let them be Christians!>>At Santa Monica High School I interviewed kids who told me one girl wore a small cross to Chorus and was asked to remove it because it was a DIVERSION..The Chorus teacher had Buddhas all over the classroom, of course)...

it's stupid. and this isn't America anymore..no WAY. And I don't blame the Right.

NO. It is NOT because of a "point of view."

It is because of a "point of view" that is NOT in total keeping with Leftism and Socialism!

THAT is the difference.
