TEACH YOUR CHILDREN

This was my high school graduation song. It really captured the times in its wisdom about listening to children and parents. I am a critic of the 60s but some of the music was on the money. Crosby, Stills,& Nash were great musicians, although sometimes they wandered out onto the left. They went to another musical level when Neil Young joined them. I think they were doing what a lot of people were trying to do at that time, find their way. The 60s were tremendously disorienting to the country. We haven't recovered yet. Some of the music was visionary and left its mark on music today. And sometimes it celebrated rioting.

I missed a lot of the 60s because I was looking for drugged-up kids in the classroom, and had to deal with counselors and parents who made excuses for them ("She's on medication.") I am now able to enjoy the music, without thinking of the bad vibes. But I don't care what Hitler thought of Wagner, I can't stay awake that long.

Don,
Thanks for the visit. Great line about Wagner. I think it is something in the German mindset that they like long words and long operas.

Thanks for the audio and visual trips down memory lane. Sure is making me feel old, though.

I just caught a bit of American Idol where Neil Young sang this along with one of the 10 finalist.

It brought tears to my eyes.

Nun,
Thanks for the visit. I always thought this song had a lot of meaning. C,S,N & Y were the spokesmen for out generation. I loved their music as most of my friends did, hence this was our graduation song. Somehow they stood against the war and all that but it seemed they did it in a non-confrontational way. Interesting.
